Cindy reached out to us because she needed help planning her dad’s “Hwangap” Hangul: 환갑; Hanja: 還甲 (Korean 60th Birthday Celebration). Since she lived on the other side of the country, she wanted to do something extra special for her dad and we were more than happy to help.
As our team specializes in Korean events, after a brief chat, Cindy and I knew we were the perfect fit for one another to have this intimate backyard Hwangap in their beautiful home.
The party was held at her parents’ beautiful backyard in Newcastle, WA. We stuck with an evergreen, blue, and silver color scheme throughout the whole party and paired them up with one of our bilingual photographers, Justin Yang.
Cindy wanted to incorporate a lot of balloons - our favorite were the giant white balloons with garland tails!
Did we mention that the birthday celebrant LOVES to hike? Cindy shared with us that her dad was part of a group that traveled all around the world to go hiking (side note: her parents went hiking the morning of the party as well!) and climb some of the most famous mountains! We knew the best way to accommodate this other than the color scheme was the cake!
MissyBakes executed the most perfect mountain cake for Cindy’s Dad. Cindy’s dad and family were BLOWN AWAY by the cake and the favors made by Missy. The “topper” was my favorite as she perfectly recreated Cindy’s dad holding the Korean flag.
Can we talk about all this Korean food?! I'm drooling as I'm writing this post... Give more more 불고기!
Mountain-theme party favors and traditional napkin-folding were a hit!
Being able to translate and relate to the culture was definitely a plus for me as a planner – I felt like part of their family right away. A Dad’s 60th Birthday is such an important part of Korean culture and I was happy to have been a part of this! Selecting bilingual vendors was also something I really focused on for my client – it made all the difference.
How adorable is he? Happy birthday!
